Affordability and Assistance Programs
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is associated with the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, popularly known as WIC. Eligible WIC participants are issued FMNP coupons in addition to their regular WIC benefits. These coupons can be used to buy eligible foods from farmers, farmers' markets or roadside stands that have been approved by the state agency to accept FMNP coupons.
Second Harvest is the leading fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. Second Harvest provides food and support to 700+ community partners and programs across 23 parishes.
Crescent City Farmers Market provides a range of projects to demonstrate that "Farmers Markets are for everybody." Through Market Match, CCFM meets you halfway by matching your SNAP purchases. CCFM provides programs for youth and seniors to enjoy markets at their pace. Everyone is invited to learn cooking tips and smart shopping concepts by visiting the Market Umbrella table at each market.
Sankofa Fresh Food Pantry offers heart healthy fresh groceries at the Sankofa Community Center and SNAP enrollment or renewal assistance, in partnership with Second Harvest food bank. Enrollment and renewal assistance is available on Wednesdays from 10 pm to 12 pm. Please bring photo ID, proof of address and proof of income. The offered to families follow American Heart Association nutrition guidelines.
Residents interested in receiving food assistance can bring proof of income (SNAP, SSI, TANF award letter, check stubs, bank statements) and proof of residence (utilities bill, bank statements, mail) to the pantry during operating hours to apply for assistance.
